Vowels (Swar)

The Hindi word for ‘vowel’ is स्वर. In Hindi, here are the thirteen vowels. Hindi vowels have a long form and a short form.

Note that the अ vowel does not have a short form, but the remaining twelve do. The vowels’ short form combines with consonants. In the short form column in the above table, the circle represents where the consonant would go.
