About

The purpose of this website is to offer additional study material for students of the Hindi Varna Bodh course, to help them better prepare for the examination that accompanies this course. Material that cannot be adequately covered in the classroom (such as vocabulary) is presented here. Also, basic Hindi grammar and parts of speech is expanded upon in this website.

This course assumes that the student has finished learning to read and write the Hindi Swar (vowels, both long and short form) and Vyanjan (consonants). Students should also be able to read basic words in Hindi.

The text book for the course is “Hindi Vivek Part One” by Professor Hari Shankar Adesh. It covers all the vocabulary, sentences and conversation for this level. For grammar, the book “Hindi Vyaakaran Sameeksha” (by the same author) is used. These books are used only in class and not available in soft copy.

No text from the above books are used on this website to avoid copyright issues.

Apart from these prescribed texts, I use “Hindi Prabhaat Book One” by Kamla Ramlakhan to teach some vocabulary, grammar (simple present tense), as well as covers some of the essay topics.

As for me, I have been teaching Hindi at the elementary level for about six years. I completed the Diploma level in Hindi from the Central Hindi Institute (Kendriya Hindi Sansthan) in Agra, India.

I trust that this website will prove useful, not only to my students, but to all those who wish to learn Hindi.
