Baarahakharee

Baarahakharee refers to combining Hindi consonants with the short forms of vowels to form a syllable. Baarah (बारह) means twelve and kharee (खड़ी) means standing or vertical, so Baarahakharee is the twelve combinations of a consonant with the Hindi short vowels. For example, the Baarahakharee for क, च, ज, ट, त, द, न, ब, प, म, य and ल are as follows:

In some text books, the first column with single consonant (without any vowel) is dropped and a column with the consonant combined with the ऋ vowel is added:
